2011 Fishing report.
The
catfish showed themselves well during the year with over 180 being landed
and the same amount or more being lost. The main reason for fish being
lost was down to insufficient line strength and we intend to remedy this
by insisting that the minimum line strength is 18lb.
This will be incorporated in the rules for 2012 and
anyone using less than this strength will not be allowed to fish.
The lake record for a catfish at Home Farm was broken
in June and now stands at 61lb, caught on one of our own Cat Catcher
boilies, which are sold on site. The number of catfish in the specimen
lake now stands at 81, ranging from 15lbs to over 60lbs. This increase in
numbers is due to a recent stock consolidation where larger cats and carp
have been removed from the Match Lake and introduced to the Specimen
Lake. Conversely, smaller carp and silver fish have been netted from the
Specimen lake and moved to the Match Lake. This will improve the fishing
on both lakes and reduce the number of line breakages experienced by
match anglers.
The largest Carp caught in 2011 was 26lb with many
more slightly smaller or in the high teens. An additional number of
Common and Mirror carp were purchased and stocked in early November
ranging from 20 to 23lb.
